Nature Coast Fishing Seasons - A Guide

Homosassa and the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge are some of the best remaining estuarine hatcheries for the numerous species of fish that inhabit Florida's Nature Coast. The Chassahowitzka River is a bastion of pristine coastline that has successfully resisted modern man's unending quest for waterfront housing and other development. Hundreds of acres of water beckon invitingly to anglers as the Chassahowitzka spreads out to meet the Gulf of Mexico.

Anytime of the year an angler is likely to hook up with a Redfish, Speckled Sea Trout, Sheepshead, Flounder, Shark or Mangrove Snapper. Below is a seasonal guide of what to expect and when...

Redfish are abundant year-round, but peak times are March, the first two weeks of April, and again during the hotter months of July, August and September, when the largest schools are found.
